The album is stellar, which you already knew. The contrast between the clipping, distorted drums and the clarity in the harmonized vocals is so rich. Emmett - Radiating Light and Pale Sun are my favorites with their unexpected song structures and haunting vocals. I am gutted by end in the best way. Cover art is wall-art worthy. Together with the booklet art and lyric layout it’s worth the cost alone. Just buy it.

What more can I say about about an album so great as Gold & Grey by Baroness that hasn't already been said by everyone else writing their year end Best of 2019 lists? Hmm. Well! First, it deserves mentioning that this belongs on all of those lists in the first place. This is definitely in my top 3 of 2019 (along with new Inter Arma and Full of Hell in no particular order), so with those other two bands in the discussion, you can say this album has something for everyone (for fans of old and new Baroness alike as well as appreciators of all styles of metal/extreme music). I could go on and on, so I'll wrap it up with three points: 1. There's not one bad song on here (my favorite: Tourniquet), and the songs can stand alone on their own, but I think it's better and intended by the artist to listen to the album start to finish due to the flow and well-placed segues, so if you have an hour to drive somewhere, go with it start to finish. 2. With all due respect and love to Pete Adams, the addition of Gina Gleason to this band (Gold & Grey is the band's first release with Gleason on guitar & vox) gives their sound an extra dynamic of melody, harmony and texture that older Baroness records didn't have exactly like this. You could argue that they did since Adams had similar exchanges with Baizley on multiple songs, but not like this. Maybe because Gleason is a virtuoso on guitar (she learned the band's 14 song playlist in three weeks before I saw her first show with the band celebrating Tired Hands 5th birthday at Philly's Union Transfer in June of 2017) and collaborates well with Baizley as they exchange guitar sounds and harmonize very well together. All four members of the band seem to have the great chemistry of appreciating each other's work, and that definitely comes through in the recording (and live if you get lucky enough to see them play like I have seen them play these and old songs twice this year). 3. LOVE the artwork and how it compliments the music (as I do for all Baroness releases), but just make sure you don't make the mistake I made only once as a vinyl newbie, and that's place the needle down upon side D. There's no music on that side (just more of Baizley's impressive expressions of nature), but I hope you enjoy Sides A, B and C as much as I do!

This album is worth every penny. The music is fantastic and up to the high standards of the Baroness catalog. But you wanna buy the album... what a fantastic package for the collector or audiophile. The sleeve opens to beautiful interior art. The vinyl is on 140g weight with three sides of audio and an etching on the fourth side. Also included is a lyric book with more beautiful art throughout. You shouldn't be thinking about this anymore. The album should be in your cart and you should be checking out...
